Experience Counselors at EYS provide a safe, nonjudgmental environment where a positive, therapeutic relationship can benefit the youth’s and family’s overall wellbeing. Counselors focus on nurturing these relationships to assist in increasing selfesteem, reducing family conflict, to mitigate the effects of trauma, increase healthy coping skills and to address attachment issues. The team approach at EYS provides encouragement, understanding and assistance for the clients to ensure they can tap into their potential and succeed in many areas of life. Evolve Youth Services is a trauma-informed agency focused on attachment as a key factor for healing early childhood trauma.

She worked as a Leader Grief Counselor at Hospice of Humboldt for over 10 years where she created and developed the Circle of Care Youth Program for grieving children in our community. She served as a member of the leadership team with the 0-8 Mental Health Collaboratives for 3 years, provided mental health services to children who were considered at high-risk for abuse, provided counseling to children in foster care and helped to create a mental health program for local first-responders.

Reiki

The Japanese practice of Reiki, involves light touch, or the laying on of hands on or above the individual, utilizing the measurable electro-magnetic radiation given off by the human body, to create deep states of relaxation. In this state, clients can experience faster and more powerful healing through an increase of blood flow and energy within the body, aiding in bringing the body’s various systems into balance (enhancing the production of positive neuro-chemicals, improving digestion, reducing inflammation, lowering blood pressure, etc.), as well as facilitating mind/body integration and a deeper sense of calm and awareness, so that you will leave your sessions feeling more relaxed and better than ever before.

JESSICA M. DORA, M.A.

With a Master’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s Attunement in Reiki, Jessica combines traditional counseling and Reiki to help clients, and parents, to reduce stress, anxiety and physical ailments, as well as to improve relaxation, communication, relationships, general well-being and more.

Through counseling, Jessica is able to help clients gain new perspectives on their past and present challenges, understand others better, process negative emotions and thoughts, and transform problems and obstacles into solutions and growth opportunities.

Jessica tailors her holistic approach specifically to each client and their particular needs, so you will choose how much of each modality you prefer. Whether you struggle with anxiety or depression, finding meaning in life, or would like to feel a deeper connection with yourself and others, the deeply relaxed states produced by Reiki and the self-awareness gained through counseling, will help you align with your highest self and greatest good.

This approach has proven extremely effective for EYS youth and families because it works on both the physiological and the psychological level to enhance well-being.

Sun Yi’s Academy of Tae Kwon Do

In line with EYS’ philosophy, Sun Vi’s Academy takes a holistic approach to personal development and Martial Arts practice, balancing the focus of instruction between character development, physical fitness and self-defense. The Academy offers a wide range of classes, with students ranging from 4 to 74 years in age, and a family friendly atmosphere.

Tae Kwon Do is an extremely effective martial art for teaching self-defense, improving physical fitness, and enhancing self-confidence and self-discipline. In addition to learning self-defense and improving their physical fitness, students at Sun Vi’s Academy learn how to apply the Five Tenets of Tae Kwon Do to their lives, both on and off the mat: Courtesy, Integrity, Self-Discipline, Perseverance and Indomitable Spirit. Every class ends with a discussion of one of these principles and how we can apply it to every aspect of our lives.

DIVERSE ARRAY OF CLASSES:

  • The Tiny Tigers class is 30 minutes long and designed specifically for children 4 to 6 years of age.
  • The Kids Classes are designed for children ages 7 to 14, and are one hour long each.
  • For older students, there are Classes for Teens and Adults 14 years of age and older, and also have Family Classes for any student over the age of 7, so you can attend class with your children.

The staff of Black Belt Instructors are all highly trained, both in the martial arts and in education. Senior Master Lewis, Sun Vi’s Academy’s Chief Instructor, is a 7th Dan Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do, a former National Champion and Tenured Professor.

Discover what the Sun Vi’s Family is all about. You don’t have to be a Black Belt to start, but you have to start to become a black belt. Youth in the Evolve Youth Services program have enjoyed the teachings of Sun Vi’s Academy for many years, strengthening both their bodies and their minds.
